John Downing makes some final adjustments to his lawn mower before the demolition derby competition at the 2009 Fall Brawl. Downing has been competing for two years and built his mower in one day. He finished in seventh place in this year’s competition.

The lawnmower class had 43 entries this year.

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island

The Grand Hotel was made famous by the movie “Somewhere in time,” starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. This was the main reason for our trip because ever since that movie, my mom has wanted to see it in person.
