Garrett & Nolan

Besides sports, I really like taking pictures of cute little kids.  Not so much setup, dress clothes portraits, but environmental, “let’s play” portraits that are natural.  Eventually, I will put up a gallery of these and my wedding photos so that maybe I can get some jobs lined up.  The photos below are of Garret, 2, and Nolan, less than one, grandchildren of a family friend.

Presentation vs. South Oldham (JV)

Over Christmas break, I went back to my alma mater to talk to one of the former softball coaches, who now takes wedding photos, and to shoot more basketball.  All I can say is that freshman and junior varsity high school basketball is WAY different than the college game, and Man! is our gym yellow!

Portraits: At Play

Over Christmas break, I practiced by taking environmental “playing” portraits of Greg’s nephew, Jacob, and cousin Sydney, both 3 years old.  I really like taking these types of pictures, and I think parents enjoy them more than the stiff portraits of their children because they are more natural and not forced.

Below are a couple photos of Jacob from Thanksgiving.

Crunch Brunch – Take Two!

Despite the ice and the rain and the cold, I was determined to shoot Crunch Brunch this year.  Why?  Because last year’s event was the first that I had ever shot with my Rebel, and I wanted to see if I had improved.  HOPEFULLY, I have.  What I do know for sure is that I have learned so much over the past year, and my love for photography has grown exponentially since then.  Along with that, unfortunately, is the ever-increasing worry about May 9, 2009 – graduation and the beginning of my life outside of school.  I worry every day about whether or not I will have an internship and especially a job!  Sometimes I wonder why “I ever got into this mess” in the first place; why I decided that I wanted to pursue photography.  And then I pick up my camera.  And go to an event to take pictures.  And look at my past work and my friends’ work, and I realize that this is what I want to be doing.  Do I wish that I would know for sure that I would be on the road toward being more financially secure?  Absolutely.  But this is my path and where I want to be going.
