Five candle stations were set up around downtown so participants could pick up a candle from wherever they were and meet at the library, said Mark Royse, the executive director of AIDS Volunteers, Inc. According to a semi-annual report released in June, there are 3,000 people in Kentucky currently living with HIV/AIDS, Royse said. He said while media attention has been focused on the cases in Africa and India, it is important to remember that this is still an issue in the United States.
